Marriage and divorce in Japan

I feel that Japanese people are very careful in choosing partners for a happy marriage, but the divorce rate is getting higher gradually. Statistical data explains only a small increase in the divorce rate in Japan, but I believe it has definitely gotten higher as the position of women in marriage has made a dramatic change from weak to strong over the last few years.

In the old days there would have been no way that a woman could argue with the husband even about seemingly unimportant matters – because it may just cause trouble between them, but nowadays they have more freedom in marriage and their lives with wider variety of choices.

Women did not only get freedom, but also domestic power. Since women have gained a stronger position in the couples or families, often men are put in lower positions which can be seen commonly in Japanese families. This is a positive change in perspectives of the women but to consider marriage it may be the major reason why couples get divorced easily today.
